Get to Know Dr. Brady
Born in Claude, Texas, Dr. Chris Brady grew up working in his family’s grocery store, run by his parents, Bill and Elizabeth Brady. From sacking groceries on a milk crate at age six to learning the value of hard work, integrity, and perseverance, those early lessons shaped both his personal and professional life.
When the family grocery store was forced to close during his high school years, Dr. Brady’s father refused to declare bankruptcy and instead repaid every debt in full — a testament to the family’s deep-rooted honesty and commitment. Dr. Brady has carried that same philosophy throughout his life: a man’s word is his bond.
His journey toward dentistry began during Boys State in Austin, where he was appointed to the State Board of Dental Examiners, sparking his lifelong interest in the field.
The Road to Dentistry
Dr. Brady’s path to dental school was one of determination and grit. With limited finances, he worked various jobs while attending West Texas State University. One of those jobs — stocking candy machines for the Gallineau Brothers — led to an encounter that would change his life.
While filling candy machines one day, he spotted a beautiful blonde student named Ronnie. After tracking down her number and introducing himself as “the Candy Man,” the two went on their first date and soon became inseparable. They married on January 6, 1973, a decision that began a lifelong partnership built on love, faith, and humor (to this day, Dr. Brady still buys Ronnie Snickers bars to make up for never giving her one while working the candy route!).
After being accepted early to dental school, Dr. Brady and Ronnie moved to Houston in 1973, where they both worked multiple jobs to make ends meet. Despite the challenges — including floods, long commutes, and tight budgets — those years were filled with faith, hard work, and unforgettable memories.
Building a Practice & a Legacy
Dr. Brady graduated from dental school in 1977 and returned to the Texas Panhandle, establishing his practice in Amarillo. He began his career in the office of Dr. Carter Karr, who became a trusted mentor and friend. With Ronnie by his side handling everything from bookkeeping to assisting, Brady Dental Group truly started as a family effort.
Over the years, Dr. Brady’s practice grew steadily, built on personal relationships, quality care, and a strong commitment to his patients. In 1982, he welcomed Dr. Dan Bentley to share office space — a partnership that lasted 25 years, sealed only with a handshake.
In 1980, Dr. Brady and Ronnie welcomed their daughter, Kimberly, into the world. Family has always been at the heart of Dr. Brady’s life and work, and he made sure to dedicate Fridays to “Daughter Day,” volunteering at Kimberly’s schools and staying involved through every season of her education.
When Kimberly followed in her father’s footsteps, earning her DDS from the same dental school, it was one of Dr. Brady’s proudest moments. In 2007, he officially welcomed Dr. Kimberly Gilbert and Dr. Laura Turner to the practice, expanding Brady Dental Group into a thriving family-centered dental home.
Life Beyond Dentistry
Dr. Brady has served on numerous nonprofit boards throughout his career, including the High Plains Epilepsy Board, Patsy’s Place, Sunshine Cottage, and The Opportunity Plan, always striving to give back to the community that supported him.
He and Ronnie are deeply proud of their daughter, Kimberly, and their two granddaughters, Bradyn and Riley, who bring constant joy to their lives. When not spending time making memories with their granddaughters, the Brady’s enjoy escaping to the fresh mountain air of Red River, New Mexico and taking long vacations in the smoky mountains of Tennessee.

Get to Know Dr. Short
Born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, Dr. Jordan Walterscheid Short is proud to serve the same community she’s always called home. A graduate of Amarillo High School (Class of 2010), she went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University in 2014. After graduation, she returned to Amarillo to work in a local dental practice before pursuing her dream of becoming a dentist.
Her passion for dentistry began in high school when her art teacher, Mrs. Kelley, encouraged her to consider a career that combined her three favorite things: science, art, and people. Dentistry proved to be the perfect fit, blending creativity, precision, and personal connection. For Dr. Short, being able to return home and provide high-quality dental care to the Texas Panhandle is both a privilege and a joy.
Life Outside the Office
In a fun twist of fate, Dr. Short met her husband, Paxton, in dental school even though they had both attended Amarillo High and Texas A&M University years earlier without ever crossing paths! The two married in fall 2021 and remained in San Antonio briefly before moving back to Amarillo in February 2022, where Dr. Short happily joined the Brady Dental Group family.
In 2023 the Shorts welcomed their son, Van, and in 2025 their daughter, Murphy, joyful additions to their busy household that also includes two furry family members: Maggie (a Labrador Retriever) and an evil furball named MoMo (a tabby cat).
When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Short loves spending time with family and friends, traveling to tropical destinations, golfing, skiing on bluebird days, exploring Palo Duro Canyon, and discovering the best local restaurants.
Dr. Short and her family are thrilled to be planting roots and growing their family in the Texas Panhandle, a community they’re proud to call home.
